We’ve Expanded!

So, remember when we said we had some good and some excellent news?
Well, in addition to the release of Mellel 4 -- and who isn’t excited about that -- Eyal and I (I’m Ori, in case you don’t know me) added some friends and created the new and expanded Mellel team.

Yes. We have expanded! The new team consists of some folks who’ll help us grow and expand our support and learning resources, some who will help us get our site together in a more together way, and others still will help us do some marketing... Yes, it almost defies belief, but these folks will help us market Mellel much more seriously. All are humble folks without temptation, so we’re going to have ourselves a time.

Why did we do that? Why? Well, over the years we’ve heard from you that our support isn’t what it used to be or should be. To be very delicate with ourselves, It wasn’t great. To remedy this, we’ve now created with our expanded team an extensive resource and tutorial web, to help anyone who wants to master Mellel. In addition, Eyal and I will also be aided in the near future with posts and support for users by others on the Mellel team. Treat them kindly. Don’t drink and drive. Sip strawberry milkshakes with a straw.

Yeah, and in that spirit: if your friends (or you) always felt that Mellel is great, but the learning curve is too steep — send them to our site in about a month. We’re re-launching it soon, and you’ll certainly see the difference in the level of learning support.

As always, we look forward to your feedback - see you in the forum (and later on, in our revamped blog).

Oh, lest I forget: Our new site and resource centre goes up first of September. Check it out.

Ample parking day and night to you all,

Ori from Mellel Inc.

over the years we’ve heard from you that our support isn’t what it used to be or should be.

On and off since 2008 I've been dabbling in Mellel, and I have sent a few simple questions to the company per email. I did not receive an answer, not even once.

To remedy this, we’ve now created with our expanded team an extensive resource and tutorial web, to help anyone who wants to master Mellel.

I recently decided to give Mellel another try and use the forum to increase my motivation and get answers to some open questions. From your point of view as a developer, the forum should be a cheap way to get most how-to-do questions answered, but for quite some time now the forum can't be searched; every search renders a "General Error", SQL error. This is fatal. Similarly, every time a post is sent another error occurs, but this is less serious because posts are apparently delivered despite the error messages.

Everybody welcomes a new "extensive resource and tutorial web", but I think fixing the forum should be the number one priority. I also recommend merging the two forums. The present state is confusing and irritating.

I have also got serious doubts about the (present) usefulness of the forum, beyond a place for sole Mellel related announcements and news. Many questions are never answered, including my own, although, based on the nature of the questions, there got to be a large number of people who already know the right answer. Why is the community not more active? Just wondering …

Mellel has been my favorite writing tool for well over a decade, and I think the expansion of the Mellel team will improve an aready great word processor.

I'd also like to see the forum be more active.

But I'd prefer to keep the two forums, and even add a third. A simple name change would improve things immediately, imo. One forum for Support, the second for Feedback (suggestions, feature requests, etc), and a new forum for general User Chat where members can share their knowledge, experience, and ideas about using Mellel.

Update: I just experienced the same problems Icelander mentioned in his post: Error messages. It took several attempts before I was able to post this message. Anem yes, it is frustrating. Why would a first rate word processor developer allow itself to be saddled with second rate forum software? Xenforo (I think that's the name) would be a much better forum sofware to use.

The forum software is suffering from some issues. We are moving the forum (along with all the messages and users, of-course) to a new server very soon.
